Lancaster VINELink Release Coverage
Virginia Jail VINE covers participating local and regional jail custody. For a Lancaster arrest, use it to look for the person under the relevant holding agency and to register for custody-change notices. The system may report release, transfer, escape and return, death, and sometimes work-release or electronic-monitoring events. Its value is speed and notification. It is not the official Lancaster commitment-and-release record.

VADOC distinguishes an advanced release notice from the actual release date. The advanced notice is anticipated, typically about thirty days ahead, and may be updated if the date changes. Actual release ends VADOC custody and its release notifications. Neither state concept should be applied to a short Lancaster jail stay, and neither supplies the sheriff's local departure timestamp.

The screen begins the one-person check. A result still needs identity review and agency confirmation before it supports a Lancaster County release conclusion.

The application is dynamic, and exact display fields can change. Research verified the following types of information as part of the search and event workflow. If a VINELink message says released or transferred, ask Lancaster County Jail for the release reason and destination. A VADOC institution result means the person remained in state custody after leaving the local jail. A VADOC District 33 or community-supervision result, paired with jail confirmation of discharge, supports physical release with supervision still in force.
Virginia Code § 53.1-133.02 supports automated notices for covered jail events that include release, discharge, work release, transfer, escape, and a name change. The breadth of those events explains why an alert must be read closely. A status change is not always a return to the community, and the notification text is not a substitute for the originating jail record.
Register Lancaster Release Alerts
Registration starts from the correct individual record. Virginia VINE can offer phone, text, email, TTY, or app contact choices depending on the interface and event. More than one contact may be registered. Telephone registration includes a four-digit acknowledgment PIN. That PIN confirms receipt of an automated call and is not the person's jail telephone PIN.

- Select the offered contact method, such as phone, text, email, TTY, or app.
- Enter the contact destination carefully and review the event types offered.
- For telephone calls, create a four-digit PIN that the recipient can recall.
- When the automated call arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge the notice and stop repeat calls.
- Contact VINE support if the contact, PIN, or cancellation setting needs help.
VINE may leave a message and retry an unacknowledged telephone alert within its stated period, up to 24 hours. Support is available at 1-800-467-4943 by pressing 0. TTY support is 1-866-847-1298. Keep registration details private, and update a contact method that is no longer controlled by the registrant.
More than one reliable contact can be useful when the interface permits it, but each entry should belong to the registrant or an authorized recipient. Test the chosen channel if the application offers confirmation. A blocked number, full mailbox, changed email address, or forgotten PIN can prevent acknowledgment even when the agency feed sent the event as designed.
Note: A notification signals an agency-fed event; call the holding agency before treating it as a final community release.
Confirm Lancaster VINELink Releases
Use the agency that made the last transaction as the primary source. Lancaster County Jail records cover local booking, custody, transfer, and departure. NNRJ records cover a later NNRJ stay. VADOC covers a state commitment and later discharge. A court clerk can supply the order that authorized a release but not the jail-management timestamp for physical departure.
For a Lancaster event, call 804-462-5111 and ask whether the person is now held, released to the community, transferred, or held for another authority. A BOP locator result saying “Released” concerns BOP custody only. A federal pretrial detainee may remain under USMS authority in a contract jail and never fit the expected BOP search path. Likewise, “released to ICE” is an intergovernmental handoff. It does not establish community release. Follow the documented destination instead of extending a local VINE result beyond its scope.
Three Virginia Alert Systems
Virginia Jail VINE, VADOC and NAAVI notifications, and sex-offender-registry alerts are separate systems. Registration does not automatically carry from one to another. This distinction is critical after a Lancaster jail transfer. A local VINE registrant who learns that the person entered VADOC authority must follow the state-corrections path instead of assuming the original jail registration will cover all later prison events.

Registry appearance may corroborate a legal registration status for a covered person, but registry absence says nothing about someone who has no registration duty.
For a person with a registration duty, the Virginia State Police registry concerns registry identity and changes, not the jail's release transaction. State law requires covered people to register within the applicable period after confinement, but that later record does not establish the exact Lancaster jail-exit time. Keep the alert purposes separate and verify each fact with the system that created it.
Lancaster Release Event Scenarios
A bond event from Lancaster may end jail custody while the criminal case remains open. Confirm the General District Court bond entry and the sheriff's actual release time. No result is the weakest form of evidence. It can mean release, but it can also mean transfer, processing delay, limited system scope, lawful record restriction, or no matching public record.
A Lancaster misdemeanor marked time served offers another example. The signed sentencing order can show the imposed term, suspended time, and jail credit, while the sheriff's release transaction confirms physical departure. A VINE event can alert the observer to the change, but one case disposition does not rule out another warrant or hold. The final answer still depends on the complete custody record.
